Modern dance version

THOUGH "The Peony Pavilion" has been adapted into dance dramas several times, this contemporary piece is very new to many people. On June 29, "Awaken From a Dream" created by Wang Yuanyuan, one of China's most famous ballet directors, will set the story of the classic Kunqu Opera in modern China and explores the emotions of contemporary Chinese women.

Du Liniang and Liu Mengmei, the main characters, will appear as everyday people.

Du is portrayed as a white-collar woman under great pressure who tries to find an outlet for her feelings.

In her dreams, she meets Liu and falls in love with him.

The music combines modern music genres with Kunqu lyrics and Chinese traditional instruments.
