Series of events lined up for children’s fest
THE Shanghai Poly Grand Theater will open its portals to children for art appreciation from June to August.
The first Poly Children’s Arts Festival in 2015 attracted over 12,000 people, among them 8,000 being teenagers and children. This year, the Poly Grand Theater has increased the program number from 14 to 22.
The children’s event, titled “Open the Portals into Art,” has a theme every summer, according to Qin Tiji, president of the Shanghai Poly Grand Theater.
“We hope to offer more options for children,” Qin says.
The Poly Children’s Arts Festival this year will be generally cover three series of programs — musical concerts, children’s theater and circus.
A family concert by the Quintessence Saxophone Quintet, an audio-visual symphony concert of Joe Hisaishi and Hayao Miyazaki’s classic work, and the “Peter and the Wolf,” an anime audio-visual concert, will provide a brand-new music experience to children this season.
The concert by the Wilten Boy’s Choir from Austria in August is the highlight of this year’s festival and will be held.
Founded in the mid-13th century, the Wilten Boy’s Choir is one of the oldest boy’s choirs in Europe.
Consisting of about 150 members aged six and above, the choir has a wide repertoire, ranging from sacred music to traditional alpine songs and opera.
Their concert will also feature a variety of works including Mozart, Strauss, Michael Jackson and Austrian folk songs.
Apart from the traditional children’s theater, this time there are quite a few visually impressive programs.
The “Shadow Space” by Ukraine’s Fireflies Shadow Theater will be portrayed on the screen with lights and the movement of the performers behind.
“Aladdin and the Magic Lamp” will feature glasses-free 3D visual effect that is expected to bring the magic of the legend on the stage.
“Mary Candie’s” will add fragrance to the 3D technique that will give the audiences a feeling of walking in the forest or diving into the sea.
Those interested in circus will be treated to clowns and animals performances at “The Adventures of the Clown Forest,” while the “Famous Magician Show” will reveal the unspeakable secret of magic in July.
