Trio to play classic, modern works

THE Italian chamber ensemble Ars Trio di Roma will be performing works by Rachmaninoff, Piazzolla and Beethoven at their concert in Shanghai.

Rachmaninoff’s “Trio Elegiaque No.1 in G Minor” was written when the composer was just 19. Unlike most piano trios with three or four movements, this piece consists of only one movement in the classical form of sonata and shows Rachmaninoff’s virtuosic talent and ability to cover a variety and range of sound colors.

The “Estaciones Portenas,” also known as “The Foqur Seasons of Buenos Aires,” is a set of four tango compositions by Piazzolla written between 1965 and 1970. Beethoven’s “Piano Trio in B-flat Major,” also referred to as the “Archduke Trio,” was one of the composer’s 12 piano trios. It’s dedicated to the Archduke Rudolph of Austria.

Debuted in 2001, the Ars Trio di Roma is a young trio made up of pianist Laura Pietrocini, violinist Marco Fiorentini and cellist Valeriano Taddeo, all from the city of Rome, that presents a complete repertoire from classical to modern.

The trio has taken tours throughout Europe. In 2002, it was invited on a long South American tour that took it to Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil.
