Put the pedal to the metal at auto festival in Jiading

JIADING District is known for its long history and culture. It is now under the spotlight as the Formula One Chinese Grand Prix will be held in the district this week.
Jiading has a total area of 463.6 square kilometers. There are seven towns and two industrial zones in the district.
Jiading was established in 1217 during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). Throughout history, numerous cultural relics have been preserved in the district, including the biggest Confucius Temple in the Yangtze River Delta, Guyi Garden and Fahua Pagoda. Most of the historic sites are in either Jiading Town or Nanxiang Town. The district has 37 tourist attractions, including four national 4A-level sites. It also features more than 10 intangible cultural heritages including Jiading bamboo carving, Xuhang straw plaiting and Nanxiang xiaolongbao (small steamed buns).
Jiading International Automobile City features the most complete automobile industrial chain in the country. Shanghai International Circuit in Jiading is the only Formula One track in China and hosts the Chinese Grand Prix.
The annual Shanghai Auto Cultural Festival will take place in conjunction with the Formula One Chinese Grand Prix this Friday. The festival aims to promote Jiading as the center of the country’s auto industry. Shanghai Daily picks some of the festival’s highlights.
Formula One Chinese Grand Prix
The F1 race is always the most anticipated event at the festival. Watch and listen as the cars race around the track at breakneck speeds.

‘Jiading Theme Park’ Happy Carnival
The square around Shanghai International Circuit will be renovated into a theme park during the festival. The park will offer performances, lucky draws, snacks and a chance to test drive new energy vehicles.

Auto Advertisement Carnival
The first Chinese Auto Advertisement Carnival will stage an exhibition of car adverts at the square around Shanghai International Circuit in Jiading.

Car Stereo Festival
This display of car stereos will pump up the action. A car stereo modification contest will be held. Be warned: this event could be loud.

Shanghai International Circuit’s spring and summer race season
Not satisfied with F1 races? No problem, the Shanghai International Circuit’s spring and summer race season will shift into gear with the China Touring Car Championship and Ferrari Racing Days.
