5 simple ways to make the most of your short vacation

When was the last time you took a short vacation and forgot what day it was, or felt refreshed afterword instead of rushing through it and forcing yourself to relax? It’s not impossible to have a refreshing vacation — it can happen — and by following these easy steps, you can make the process as simple as possible before heading back to the grind.

Where do you enjoy yourself the most?

In order to relax, you need to be in a setting that you are comfortable with. When asking yourself this question, focus on the atmosphere. Do you find yourself happiest while surrounded by forest and crisp mountain air on a weekend backpacking trip? Or instead in front of the fire, wrapped in a blanket and reading a good book? Also, take the amount of people around you into consideration.

Ease off the agenda

You took a vacation to relax and replenish your energy right? So why incorporate your normal daily routine of rushing around into your valuable vacation time? No one relaxes while they’re on a strict agenda. So during your next time off, try not to over plan.

Get some alone time

During your trip, regardless of its length or location, make sure to get some alone time. Even if you’re vacationing with friends or family, take a few short hours and set them aside for your own purposes. There’s nothing more liberating than having time and nothing to do with it.

Let go

OK, let’s just say you get caught up in traffic and you won’t be making it for those dinner reservations. Or the monument or museum you’ve trekked all the way across town to see is closed for renovations. Don’t panic. Don’t get angry. There are always alternative ways to enjoy yourself other than the one you’ve planned. So just let go. You’ll allow both yourself and those around you to have a better time and you might just find a new activity even more rewarding.

Finish with a bang

During your time off, be sure to plan one or two special things that you’ll look forward to doing the most. But be sure to save them for the end. Not only will it give you something to look forward to during your vacation, but it will also ensure that you end on a high note and make a lasting memory.
