Christian youth congress turns my world upside down
WE are the free, and yours is the glory!" At one moment, 20,000 other youth began to jump. The simultaneous movements made the mass of people seem like one organism, responding to the electric atmosphere.
North American Youth Congress, a conference in which Christian youth from all across the globe came together for a weekend, started out as a fun social gathering, and eventually turned into a revolutionizing event. Socially, the event involved interesting meals, new friends, late nights playing cards, and an overall fun environment. However exciting the social aspect became, nothing compared to the spiritual return.
Most youth were expecting the cookie-cutter messages about making time for devotions. Most people, including myself, weren't expecting to come away from the conference with anything of value, other than a couple more pounds from the food and some e-mail addresses from those of the opposite gender. Our expectations were not only exceeded, but were proven to be in the wrong focus. We were expecting fun and games, but we walked away with the anticipation of transformed lives.
I went "home" to the US for the summer, and I have returned to my home in Shanghai with a broader perspective, and my view of what I can do with what God has given me has multiplied. The theme of this summer's congress was "Turning Your World Upside Down" and that's exactly what I'm planning on doing.
