Convenience of plastic comes with cost

DO you know how much plastic is wasted every day? Ten metric tons of plastic fragments are wasted a day and thrown into the Pacific Ocean.
Plastic has replaced a lot of things, for example glass. Glass is an expensive material to use. When plastic replaces glass, things go easier. We also use plastic containers because plastic is very light, cheap, hard and waterproof. If I had to be honest because of the need for these devices, I cannot live entirely without plastic.
In the whole of human history, is there anything useful and cheap that humanity has voluntarily given up because it is not good for us?
Generation after generation doesn’t seem motivated to give up something even though it is bad. Maybe some day we will learn to give up plastic.
