Discover what makes you a desirable student
In order to stand out amongst the thousands of applications a particular university receives, I recommend students take the time to research the institution and themselves. What is it about the institution that is appealing, and what makes you stand out amongst your classmates? What activities or meaningful experiences have you had that make you special? Why do you believe your personality fits well within a particular school? Why is a certain university the best place for you to study over another institution?
There are different ways you may need to reply. In some cases, students are given the opportunity to write an essay and/or complete short questionnaire. You should take these essays very seriously as, it is, in most cases, the only chance you will have to speak directly to the university. Including specific details about yourself and the institution is the best way to shine amongst thousands of applicants. The essay should provide a window into your personality, characteristics, abilities, potential, skills, and ambitions.
Make sure to write about meaningful experiences, where a lesson was learned or an outlook changed.
Academics are important, but there are hundreds of students applying to universities with excellent marks. You should look into what you want to gain from a particular education or institution, and more importantly, share what you can offer in return.
