Discovering wonders of the world
AS part of this unit of inquiry, WISS Grade 5 students are connecting concepts such as causation, change and perspective to important developments in science over recent centuries. These developments include advances in medical science and the theory of human evolution.
From Felix Gabriel Heim:
The goal of the trip to the Natural History Museum was to find out more about how our planet changed and how different animals adapted according to their environment. I hoped to learn more about dinosaurs because I was very curious about how their bones look like. I saw a lot of how the world slowly changed from just the sea to having more land and starting to get bigger. I also saw the changes from seasons and how a lot of things changed color. I felt happy walking by the dinosaurs and they were bigger than I thought. I think the highlight was seeing how people tried hard to make the bones realistic. One scientific development was the evolution of humans over time. History helped change the earth so we finally have land.
From Scott Dewar:
My goal for the trip to the Natural History Museum was to learn all about adaptation and human evolution. I hoped to learn about the cool frogs and camouflage animals. I saw some big multi-color frogs.
We also saw this funny grey turtle and some buffalo. I felt so amazed about the trip because there were so many cool and colorful animals. I think the highlight of the museum was the underwater creature fossils. I think the most interesting thing was the exhibit on human evolution because it was so cool seeing the parts of what we used to look like.
The learning activity in the museum was finding the different parts of human evolution which I also enjoyed a lot.
I think the best part was seeing the dinosaurs and their fossils. I think history will help shape our future because we can learn about where we came from. As we evolve we can also know how we will evolve in the next 1 million years.
