From India to China, life has improved
I moved to Shanghai in June after my mother’s work transferred her from New Delhi. We reached Shanghai in the evening and the city was full of lights! It looked a little different from what I was used to think. My mother took us home. She had already moved here and found a nice place, so I felt very comfortable.
When our ayi started coming I realized that language would be a big problem. For the first few weeks my family and I were forced to use a translator whenever we wanted to communicate with her. Then, my mother started taking Chinese lessons, and she is now able to communicate with the ayi a lot easier. People had told us that the traffic here is bad, but when I arrived, I was like “what are they talking about?” In India, traffic is a lot worse than it is in Shanghai, as is the air pollution. My brother has asthma and while we were in India, whenever we would go he would start coughing and we would have to give him the inhaler. But here, he hasn’t needed it once.
There are a lot of differences between here and India. I personally think that it is a lot better here for my brother, and for the rest of my family as well.
