Geography trip to tea plantation in Zhejiang

TODAY, we went to the plantation owned by Wu. At first, we visited Wu’s tea storage room. There are few machines placed in the rooms next to the entrance. The machines are used for drying tea, and provides extra support to process his tea and turn them into products.

Wu said the best time to pick tea is in the spring season. He usually employs 50 tea-picking ladies to do the work for him. Every year, about 1,000 kilograms of tea is picked from the plantation.

The surface area of his plantation is about 7,000sqm, and has a very steep slope. Wu not only plants tea but also nuts and bamboos.

Wu elaborated on how he decides the costs of tea from his plantation. Baicha (白茶) is classed as the most delicate level of tea. He sells baicha for approximately 1,500 yuan (US$215).

After visiting Wu’s plantation, we headed to the Lifan Dam, which is located at the downstream of the river near Wu’s plantation.

Unfortunately, the dam had no water gushing down the concrete walls. It was because it was the dry season in Zhejiang Province, which is from November to February. Officials shut down the machines of the dam because of water shortages.

The water is used in sectors like industry, agriculture and local consumption.
