Open house for new SCIS Pudong Upper School

SHANGHAI Community International School's new Upper School campus is to open on the first day of the second semester (February 2). SCIS will host an open house and tour on Saturday from 3-5pm, and the board of directors, school administration and admissions staff will be on site.
Guests will be able to view slideshows of the state-of-the-art facilities, tour the new buildings, and, of course, enjoy food and drink.
Once classes begin in February, the community is, as always, welcome to take a full tour to see the great new facilities in operation.
The building is L-shaped building with a large field. It has a large partial basement with high ceilings and support facilities.
A Black Box Theater is the centerpiece of the design with a swimming pool on one side and a set of specialty rooms on the other. These include a fitness center, squash courts, a video editing room, and performance studios. The first floor, slightly raised above ground by the high ceilings below, includes administrative offices, classrooms and an open and spacious cafeteria that looks out onto the soccer field through an expansive wall of glass.
The second floor features a world-class library that takes an "L" shape; its windows overlook a large lobby below in the front entry space.
Also on the second floor are music classrooms, a whole row of small practice rooms for individual work or tutoring, and more standard classrooms.
The third floor contains art studios and a large exhibition hall that connects to the lobby. The lobby will serve a full-sized theater seating 600. The opening is expected in August.
The fourth floor finds us in science territory with five multi-purpose science rooms that also include lab space and preparation rooms.
The fifth and top floor includes a large gymnasium and locker rooms. With bleachers and all the necessary hardware to support our ever-growing athletics program, we will all enjoy many proud moments cheering our teams in competition.
The network and systems of the building continue the SCIS tradition of providing a highly intelligent digital infrastructure. Extending upon the Hongqiao campus design, a fiber-based zone box distribution has been implemented to reduce copper use and enhance bandwidth potential throughout. This design has prepared our building for long use into the foreseeable future.
The new Pudong Upper School has been designed with flow and facility optimized for students of all upper grade levels. At the same time, conservation and proper utilization of space was paramount in our deliberations. The result is a functional design that will serve the Pudong students of SCIS for years to come.
