Passionate student spoiled for choice

I have always been interested in the sciences, and from an early age I would try to find the explanation of things. As I moved on to high school, I found I had a passion for physics. I switched to Concordia after my ninth grade year, and although I didn’t know it then, my world was about to change.

At Concordia, I met with opportunities that helped me grow as a student and as a person. I joined the school’s first-rate robotics team, which went to nationals three years in a row. I also joined the Quizbowl, which tests academic knowledge and requires a broad spectrum of understanding in many subjects, including math and science — my strongest areas. I learned how to survive in a rigorous environment and still stay true to myself.

As I progressed through high school, I still wanted to find the explanation of things, only now I had the tools of economics, calculus and physics with which to do it. I knew I wanted to pursue engineering, an area of study for which I have an enduring love, so I applied to top engineering schools in Europe and in the US.

I was accepted to Delft University in the Netherlands, which attracted me because of its international setting and intense focus on engineering, and to Tuft’s University in the US, which explores a broad range of experiences and academics as well as ideas.

The opportunities I have had at Concordia have taught me the value of diversity in both thought and experience. These opportunities were open to me because at this school there is a love of learning and strong emphasis on becoming a well-rounded individual. That is what I kept in mind as I began the college application process and continue to even now as I decide which school to choose.
