Persistence and faith inyourself leads to success
I hear so many things about persistence. It makes me think about my life is compared to those who are persistent.
J. K. Rowling, author of the seven "Harry Potter" books, became a billionaire because she never lost faith in herself. The first book, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," wasn't published immediately; it was sent back right away. She didn't give up. She kept on revising the story until it finally got accepted on the 13th try. If she gave up the idea of being an author after the initial rejection, she would have basically given up on her dream. If it were me, I would have just thrown the book to the side after being rejected instead of looking at what went wrong and trying again.
I sent two articles to the newspaper, but only one was chosen. Most writers will read the article that wasn't chosen over again to see what went wrong, but I just thought I wasn't good enough, I didn't persist in following my dream. I just gave up.
Jeremy Lin, now a famous NBA basketball player, was given many reasons to give up and move on to something else in life. He was rejected by two basketball teams. When he finally made the NBA, it was due to injuries. Two of his teammates got hurt and the coach had no choice but to put Lin in the game. The minute the game started everyone watched in awe as Lin played like a fox, zigzagging here and there, dodging people and making shoots. Lin studied economics at Harvard University. His parents told him to look for another job when the two teams didn't accept him, but he went on following his dream to become a great basketball player and his effort paid off at last.
When my first article to the newspaper was sent back, I gave up on writing. But my mom kept pushing me, saying that if I keep on trying I would succeed. I wrote another couple articles, but they also got sent back, this time I was really discouraged but my parents insisted I write another article. After a week of waiting, I saw the title of my essay in bold letters in a copy of Shanghai Daily. That's when I realized, success isn't about giving up, it's about having trust and hope in yourself.
I learned persistence leads to success. I will always keep this in mind no matter how many times I fail.
