SUIS students give dead porpoise a land burial
DURING this National Day, the parents of P3B from Shanghai United International School Wan Yuan campus organized an activity about environmental protection along the seaside city of Qidong, Jiangsu Province. They wanted to try their very best to reduce the trash on the beach though they hadn’t thought there’s much rubbish there before they went.
The weather was a little bad. Everyone was so excited to go to the beach even if it was cold and windy. However, when they arrived at the beach, what they saw totally surprised them, coke bottles, plastic bags, slippers and foamed plastic. After seeing it, everyone started to pick up the rubbish and put it into the garbage bags. Few moments later, a child saw a finless porpoise that was stranded. Then everyone went to check this finless porpoise. Unfortunately, it didn’t have any breath. There were many wounds on its body. Its back and belly were twined by plastic bags and were starting to decay. The children were trying to help the finless porpoise find its eyes, but they couldn’t find them. Eventually, our nice and kind children couldn’t help crying when seeing such a tragedy.
Finally, the children buried the finless porpoise and had a memorial for it with their parents’ comfort and help. They put the garbage bag beside the dead finless porpoise, showing that they all tried the best to save it. They hope that there’s no trash in heaven and everybody should protect the environment.
A journalist who has great news sense, captured the valuable picture. Many other media also reported this meaningful activity that greatly attracted people’s attention to environment protection. Some parents said that they couldn’t help crying when seeing the photo of this finless porpoise. Some parents praised the children full of love. Meanwhile others mentioned that if human beings aren’t environmentally friendly, they would have the same result as this finless porpoise. Everyone agreed that there should be no more damage to the environment. The children were the ones who learned the most from this activity as they experienced it personally.
