Small steps can bring big changes
During our time in the IB-Diploma program at YCIS, our proudest achievement has been our major “CAS Project.” The CAS (Creativity, Action, and Service) program creates an amazing opportunity for students to truly think about what we can do to make the world a better place. For our project, we worked with a non-profit organization called “The Library Project,” which donates libraries to rural elementary schools, orphanages, and community centers across China and Vietnam. We decided to raise funds and build a library in an elementary school in Fujian, China.
This project was challenging, as our goal was to raise 22,000 yuan (US$ 3,540) to build the library. Raising this huge amount of money seemed impossible in the beginning, but we discussed, planned, and enacted many ideas to achieve our goal. Then we traveled to Fujian to help build the library and interact with the local children.
Working with The Library Project was our proudest achievement, and we couldn't have done it without the support of our CAS coordinator, Mr Sibarani. It was a life-changing experience, and it helped us realize that small steps can help change the world.
