Students grapple with Mongolian-style wrestling

On June 14 my classmates and I went to Inner Mongolia. Once we reached Hohhot 鈥 which is the capital of Inner Mongolia 鈥 we got straight onto a bus and went directly to the grass lands.

When we finally arrived at the place where we were staying, we got our luggage, put it inside our yurts and got straight to work. Our first task was to build a yurt. We split into two groups and my group鈥檚 yurt kind of failed. Fortunately enough, we didn鈥檛 need to sleep in the yurts that we tried to build.

The next day we did two of the most exciting things: archery and Mongolian wrestling. There was a lot of wind so it kept unclipping the arrow from the bow. Now you鈥檙e probably reading this article and thinking: 鈥済et it over with, I want to know what Mongolian wrestling is all about!鈥 Well it鈥檚 like this:

For Mongolian wrestling you have to make an arena in the form of a circle. You then get a vest to put on, made out of leather. As a tradition, you slap it onto your back before the fight and then the fight starts. The rules are that you have to hold onto the opponent鈥檚 vest the whole time. To win, you have to get your opponent to touch the floor with any body part higher than the knee. If you do decide to do this with your friend, please be smart and don鈥檛 do it on a hard surface and watch out for the girls! You boys that think you are easily going to beat the girls: think again! Mongolian wrestling really does release the beast within!
