To become a pathfinder, you must truly follow your passion

I am truly humbled to be receiving the Pathfinder award, and it’s an absolute honor to be nominated along some extremely talented SSIS students. Each one of us has found a passion for what we love. Along my path, my mindset was never to get an award. I didn’t join the basketball team to say I competed. I didn’t start an ASP to be recognized. I didn’t join the student council to be seen as a leader. I just followed my heart and my passion. Some may understand the definition of a pathfinder as someone who has found their path, or to have carved a path for someone else to follow. However, I find this to be untrue. Despite receiving this award as someone who has found a path, my path is definitely not the only path nor is it the path for everyone. Each one of us has to find what works for us, what we love and who we want to become.

One thing I have reflected upon here at SSIS is that we are one big family. What I love about this school is how closely-knit we are. We have the opportunity to make friends with every person in our grade. What separates SSIS from other international schools is the teachers who have fostered a learning community that motivates and inspires students to be better and do better. One philosophy that I have always believed in is “Hard Work Pays Off.” No matter what you do, do the best you possibly can. So be yourself, do what you love, work hard, embrace challenges and blaze your trail. There will be struggles. Bumps and bruises are inevitable but these challenges are what makes the result much sweeter and the journey much more memorable.
