XJTLU-AS devoted to building hearts and minds

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University Affiliated School (XJTLU-AS) in Suzhou has made a strategic move into basic education with the largest international university in China, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), in order to facilitate a complete internationalized education system. With classes for toddlers (aged 2) all the way up to Year 13 (aged 18), the school is divided into three main divisions: kindergarten, domestic and international departments.

XJTLU-AS is located in the Suzhou International Education Zone, Wuzhong District. Covering an area of roughly 160,000 square meters, the campus at XJTLU-AS includes a large Suzhou-style garden complete with rocks, ponds and stone bridges. This offers a natural environment in which students can study and grow positively.

In addition to receiving an excellent education from qualified, experienced teachers, students in XJTLU-AS can develop social and life skills through a broad range of sporting, cultural and leisure activities. Every child is an individual and XJTLU-AS supports each student’s needs while also providing a solid academic grounding that will allow access to top colleges and universities. The school also frees students to explore concepts, topics and ideas that inspire them, helping them develop into confident, lifelong learners.

With the international network and resources of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, the affiliated school is developing multiple study/continuing study routes.

Kindergarten

XJTLU-AS Kindergarten is a bilingual school where your child is exposed to English and Chinese languages, culture and teachers.

Kindergarten focuses on bringing the world to each child in a comfortable, warm and homelike environment. Expert teams of teachers educate students in all curriculum areas while also developing a love of learning.

They also strive to foster and develop their students’ independence and social and emotional development.

International Center

In the school’s International Center, bilingual programs (CIE, IGCSE and A-Level curriculums) taught by foreign and Chinese teachers are provided for students from Primary School (Year 9) to Upper School (Year 13), to prepare them academically and socially for universities abroad.

The boarding house at XJTLU-AS is a friendly and supportive environment. The facility consists of comfortable twin rooms and communal spaces for relaxation, study and snacking.

Domestic Campus

Besides covering the requirements of nine-year compulsory education in China, the curriculum at the Domestic Campus consists of added compulsory subjects, selective subjects and social practice activities. While focusing on achieving academic results, students can choose from over 30 arts and science related elective subjects.

Activities and Clubs

XJTLU-AS is home to a wide range of student clubs and organizations. In Kindergarten, students can join roller skating club, ballet club, piano club, swimming club or gardening club. At the International Center, students can join yoga club, ukulele band, table tennis club, KTV club, archery club, badminton club or basketball/dodge ball/fireball club. Meanwhile, at the Domestic Campus, there’s drama club, star-dance club, guitar club, diplomacy club, science club, Photoshop club, and moot and advocacy club.

A new robot team called X BLUE also launched in October. Students who are interested in science and technology related projects can sign up to attend regular trainings organized by the school. They can also attend national and international competitions such as the First Robotics Competition (FRC). This year, as the only team from Suzhou and one of only two teams from Jiangsu Province, X BLUE was invited by World Robot Conference 2015 to attend the FRC in Beijing.

As an affiliate of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, the largest international university in China, XJTLU-AS draws on the internationally-oriented outlook of the university when it comes to integrating world-class resources and diverse education models. This means students at the affiliated school have many chances to be exposed to academic, social and cultural activities both in China and abroad. Ultimately, XJTLU-AS aims to cultivate positive students with open personalities and open minds.
