Classic work ‘Slava’s Snowshow’ to be staged
“slava’S Snowshow,” a timeless clowning classic will be staged in Shanghai in tribute to Russian clown legend Slava Polunin.
Inspired by dreams and fairy tales, the performance combines elements of clowning, mime, dance and classic scores. Without a line, it boasts a distinctive charm of imagination, simplicity and innocent amazement.
Created on the edge between art and life, tragedy and comedy, absurdity and naivety, and cruelty and tenderness, the show has a power of taking people back to a more innocent time.
Over the past years, the show has been staged in more than 30 countries and regions. Polunin, founder of the Academy of Fools and creator of the show, said he wanted to create a spectacle that would take people back to their childhood dreams.
“This show is my beloved child,” Polunin said. “It can make you joyful and sad, make you laugh and move you to tears.”
Polunin is the most celebrated living clown in Russia. He is a People’s Artist of Russia, the Hans Christian Anderson Ambassador to Russia and has been the director of the St Petersburg National Circus since 2013.
Over the decades, he has endlessly pioneered theatrical productions for theaters and streets. He has and never stopped experimenting with films, books and “foolish” projects of all kinds.
In the eyes of the artist, clowning is a philosophy of life, and clowns embody freedom. The show retains the tradition of the genre while it includes spontaneous improvisation to interact with audiences.
