Design event spotlights recycling

“2016 Shanghai Design Week” will take place at the Shanghai Exhibition Center from August 26 to 29.

Occupying an area of 13,000 square-meter, the crossover event will feature a range of designs and items related to fashion, technology, art and handicrafts.

The theme of the event is to “Design the New Function and Meet the New Demand.” To express the multi-cultural life in Shanghai, visitors are able to experience different lifestyles behind different products.

Cross-media cooperation is one of the biggest themes of the exhibition, ranging from food, music, film, technology and education to public environment protection and craftsmanship plus design.

One highlight of the exhibition goes to an exhibition centered on actor Jackie Chan. This show focuses on props and set pieces featured in China’s movies. These pieces are given new life, sometimes in new and novel forms unrelated to movie making. There are even sculptures and furniture pieces recycled from movie equipment by architects and designers, all influenced by Chan’s work on environmental protection.

Chan hopes that the recycling of some of the abandoned film equipment can spur action to recycle and protect our environment.

Date: August 26-28, 9am-5pm; August 29, 9am-3pm

Ticket: 50 yuan
Venue: Shanghai Exhibition Center
