Dulcet tones to ring out across Shanghai
THE 2018 Shanghai A Cappella Festival will present a series of interactive programs at Shanghai Mass Art Center and Theater Above.
Veteran a cappella bands and artists will participate in a nationwide contest. A training camp, master class and public concerts will also be held.
On August 4, Klangbezirk, a popular a cappella band from Germany, will hold a concert at Theater Above. The band is composed of four young musicians who released a Chinese album called “Mandarin Songs” in 2010. They will perform new original songs at the concert.
A cappella is an art form of singing without the support of musical instruments.
Organizers of the festival said that next year they will host a children’s a cappella contest to promote the art to a younger generation.
Last year, the Shanghai A Cappella Alliance was set up to support the music genre. In addition to cultural exchange, the organization also encourages young artists to creative more a cappella ballads and dialect songs.
