Exhibition of unusual plants that grow by air alone

TILLANDSIA, or air plant, is the only plant in the world known to live entirely on air. It has no need to live in soil, as the water and nutrition can be absorbed through its leaves.
The roots are only used as anchors so it can hold onto wood, branches, even people’s fingers. Today, many interior designers are transforming the plants into various home decors by arranging them in sculpted configurations.
An exhibition in town explores this magic plant. Curated by Singaporean Martin Siaw, the exhibition features more than 200 air plants that are rarely seen.
Among them are those collected by US botanist Mark Dimmitt, parent plants cultivated by John Arden, new plants grown by Paul Isley in 2012, and award-winning ones by Pamela Koide Hyatt. Lectures about the plants will be given during the exhibition.
