German boy’s choir to take local stage

GERMAN boy’s choir Knabenchor Hannover is coming to Shanghai to perform a concert featuring famous film songs, ballads and choral music.

Founded in 1950, the choir has made a name for itself with its focus on historically informed performances.

The boys will sing a selection of widely varied songs, including classics like “Sure On This Shining Light,” “Fiddler Man,” “Little Jazz Mass,” “The Silver Swan” and “I love my love.” They will also present a medley of James Bond theme songs, “May It Be” from “The Lord of the Rings” film series, “Hallelujah” from “Shrek” and “Happy” from “Despicable Me 2.”

Over the decades, the choir has performed in 45 countries and regions, impressing audiences around the world with its pure and luminous singing.

Conductors such as Gustav Leonhardt, Ton Koopman and Christoph Eschenbach have worked with the choir, as have orchestras like the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and German Radio Orchestras.

In 2006, the choir was awarded the Echo Klassik Prize for the year’s best choral work for the album “Verleih uns Frieden,” which included the world’s first recording of several works by Andreas Hammerschmidt.
