Kaas pays tribute to Edith Piaf

FRENCH singer Patricia Kaas will bring her distinct style to Shanghai Oriental Art Center on May 7 as part of the 9th Sino-French Culture Spring Festival.

She will be performing songs by Edith Piaf to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the legendary singer’s death.

Piaf’s best-known works like “La Vie En Rose,” “Hymne a L’amour” and “Non Je Ne Regrette Rien” are likely to be sung by Kaas although she will put her own spin on each song.

Though widely known as a chanson singer, Kaas likes to experiment by adding elements of pop, blues, cabaret and jazz

Scoring her first French hit in 1987 with “Mademoiselle Chante le Blues,” Kaas was named female newcomer of the year at the Victoires de la Musique.

Her debut album “Mademoiselle Chante” went on to achieve platinum status in France, Belgium and Switzerland. Her later albums including “Dans Ma Chair,” “Scene de Vie” and “Je te dis Vous” have also drawn praise from both fans and music critics.
