Mongolian Melodies
MONGOLIAN singer Urna Chahar Tugchi will stage a live concert with the SSO Chamber Orchestra.
Known simply as Urna, the singer was born into a family of herders on the grasslands of the Ordos Plateau in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, a place where song was a ubiquitous part of everyday life. The yangqin, a Chinese hammered dulcimer of Persian origin, was part of Urna’s early musical training. She later joined the Shanghai Conservatory of Music to study music. In 2003, she was awarded the Ruth prize in Germany for Best International Artist.
At the upcoming concert, Urna will perform a dozen songs with Mongolian characteristics.
