Showcase of South Korean cinema
FROM tomorrow to next Tuesday, Premiere Cinema at Jing’an Kerry Center and Palace Cinema at Shanghai IFC Mall will be showcasing five acclaimed films from South Korea.
The line-up includes action-packed cop comedy “Veteran,” crime thriller “The Classified File,” drama “Madonna,” romantic comedy “Right Now, Wrong Then” and the lyrical “A Midsummer’s Fantasia.”
“Veteran,” directed by Ryoo Seung-wan, is one of South Korea’s highest grossing films of all time. Its plot centers on a tough detective’s investigation into the death of a driver.
“Right Now, Wrong Then,” a bittersweet film from Hong Sang-soo, won the Golden Leopard award at the 2015 Locarno International Film Festival.
“The Classified File” is based on a true story and focuses on a detective and a shaman searching for a missing child using fortune-telling.
Mystery drama “Madonna” was screened in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.
“A Midsummer’s Fantasia” is a collaboration between South Korean director Jang Kun-jae and Japanese filmmaker Naomi Kawase. The film has two parts, each focusing on a separate love story.
