Thirty top Picasso pieces on display
PABLO Picasso (1881-1973) is an icon in Western modern art history. A special exhibition titled “The Legend of Art: Picasso” is on display at Global Harbor Museum through to January 31, 2016.
As one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century, Picasso, a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramist, stage designer, poet and playwright, spent most of his adult life in France.
He is known for co-founding the Cubist movement. Picasso, Henri Matisse and Marcel Duchamp are regarded as the three artists who most defined the revolutionary developments in arts in the opening decades of the 20th century.
The exhibition features nearly 87 artworks created by Picasso and 81 pictures on loan from a group of private collectors around the world. The art forms vary from canvas, print, sketches to paper cutting, sculpture and porcelain.
During the first decade of the 20th century, Picasso’s style changed as he experimented with different theories, techniques, and ideas. His work is often categorized into periods. While the names of many of his later periods are debated, the most commonly accepted in his work are the Blue Period (1901–1904), the Rose Period (1904–1906), the African-influenced Period (1907–1909), Analytic Cubism (1909–1912), and Synthetic Cubism (1912–1919), also referred to as the Crystal period.
Yuexing Group chairman Ding Zuohong said: “The exhibition includes nearly 30 important artworks by Picasso, such as ‘The Musketeer’ and ‘Melon Slice’ from his idyllic period and ‘Bacchanal with Acrobats’ from his new classicism period.”
As well as the regular artworks on display, the organizer has developed an opportunity for patrons to fuse illusionary art with realistic art. Visitors can wear 3D glasses to appreciate the masterpieces of Picasso from six different periods. It will also be fun to take your own photo and develop it into a “Cubism” period picture.
