UFO-shaped drum landing in city

THE UFO-shaped hang drum is returning to Shanghai next month, accompanying the harp in a concert by the Ciference Symphony project from Salzburg, Austria.

Founded by harpist Martina Stock and percussionist Christian Schratt in 2010, the project combines harp and hang to create a sound described as harmonious and meditative.

Meanwhile, Mexican harpist Angel Padilla Crespo will also next month present a recital, featuring works by Granados, Eduardo Chavarri, Antonio de Cabezón and other compasers.

Born in Mexico City, Crespo was a scholarship student of the Royal College of Music in London and graduated in 1990. He studied under renowned Spanish harpist Nicanor Zabaleta and in 1999 he obtained a Performer’s Diploma from Indiana University in the United States with Susann McDonald.

Crespo’s career as a concert artist has seen him perform in recitals and concerts around the world, including Europe, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East.

He has performed with the London Sinfonietta Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, the Chicago Camerata and all the major orchestras in Mexico.

Tickets of the Ciference Symphony concert are 80 yuan, as it’s part of a Saturday concert series at Shanghai Oriental Art Center.
