Wind ensemble blows into town

THE William and Mary Wind Ensemble will be performing in Shanghai later this month as part of a series of activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of victory in World War II.
Membership in the ensemble is open to all undergraduate and graduate students by audition at the beginning of the school year.
The College of William and Mary has been called “the Alma Mater of a Nation” because of its close ties to America’s founding fathers. A 17-year-old George Washington received his surveyor’s license from the college and would return as its first American chancellor. Thomas Jefferson received his undergraduate education at the college, as did presidents John Tyler and James Monroe.
With a history of 322 years, it is the second-oldest institution of higher education in the United States after Harvard University.
Founded in 1929, the ensemble has performed throughout North America and is currently recording its first-ever CD with Centaur Records.
In addition, the Wind Ensemble is featured prominently in the original score to the movie “Hogtown.” The film was officially selected by the 2014 Black Harvest Film Festival and will receive its premiere at the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago, Illinois.
