Casual styles press Shanghai fashionistas’ buttons

HE Ping is a Chinese-born, London-based fashion designer who is the founder and creative director of womenswear label PINGHE. She graduated from the Fashion and Textile design postgraduate course at Nottingham Trent University and went on to work at Alexander McQueen and Camilla Staerk before joining Aftershock London as head of design. In 2012, she launched her eponymous ready-to-wear label, which has grown into an international luxury brand. She was one of three designers chosen for a prestigious Swarovski sponsorship to present Asia Pacific in 2016.

My personal style is effortless. The best outfit I’ve ever worn for a special occasion is the PINGHE long brush silk shirt paired with the open hemmed trousers. I love the confidence and beautiful feeling that my namesake brand PINGHE brings out for me.

I don’t follow any fashion trends. Fashion is like oxygen and water to me.

I usually wear my own fashion brand PINGHE and mix it with my Yeezy trainers or my converse trainers. I love shopping for shoes to match my design pieces. My favorite shoes are my off white converse trainers as they have my daughter’s drawing on it. It would be great if I could work with Converse. I usually purchase all my shoes from www.net-a-porter.com

If I have to limit my shopping to one neighborhood in Shanghai, that would be Jing’an District, which is filled with so many nice boutiques and department stores. I can find anything I want in one afternoon and finish with a lovely dinner right behind Jing’an Temple.

The designers I most admire is Alexander McQueen for his unconventional creation and uncompromised personality.

The style icons I look up to are Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City as Carrie Bradshaw; Diane Keaton in Annie Hall as Annie Hall.

The fashion item I’m eyeing next is a super cool and sexy bikini for my holiday and a music tee from the live Radio Head concert that I’m going to.

My grooming staples include blow dried hair that looks like it has been air dried. I also love my OXG products.

My signature perfume is Jo Malone “Wood Sage & Sea Salt.” I’m a tom boy when it comes to perfumes.

The most memorable place I’ve traveled in the past was the Maldives. I love the color of the sea and how happy and warm hearted the locals are.

The last book I’ve read was “Lean In” by Sheryl Sandberg.

Kasper Elmholdt Pedersen is a talented Danish chef who heads the kitchen of Pelikan, a casual Nordic dining restaurant recently opened in Jing’an District. He grew up on the west coast of Denmark and lived in Canada before starting his new adventure in Shanghai. Pedersen loves to look good and feel good.

My personal style is very minimalist and casual with a mix of luxury and high-end street brands. I’m not very bold when it comes to fashion choices, but I really care about fit, comfort, quality and the overall look of an outfit. In my industry, I can get away with dressing more casual, but it’s definitely important for me to look good and feel good.

I follow fashion trends by getting some of my inspiration from street style — if I see someone wearing a really great, unique outfit, I definitely getting ideas from that. I also really like Instagram for showing great accessories and interesting trends. Fashion pages like manistreally get me in a mood to go shopping. If I see a guy with a build like mine, that’s really helpful because then I know that a similar look could work on me.

I don’t stick to one place when I shop for clothes and accessories, but I really believe in going after quality items. A high price tag doesn’t always mean high quality, and vice versa. It’s about testing the items and asking the right questions. Some things are worth an investment — a great suit, a bag or a nice pair of boots. I recently got a pair of sunglasses from Lindeberg. I love the titanium frame — they’re so light but very durable and still masculine looking.

My favorite fashion brand is Tiger of Sweden. They have high quality clothing that always fits me well. I love that they have several lines to fit different occasions — I can always find a perfect suit or shirt for a special event, but also casual wear and accessories that work for my day-to-day lifestyle.

The designers I admire most is Alexander Wang and Jil Sander. The reason is that they create collections that are ready to wear and fuse comfort with high fashion.

The style icons I look up to is James Dean. Really simple, a little rugged but still pulled together.

The last item I’ve added to my wardrobe is a bag from Porter International. I had been looking for a high quality, waterproof bag, looked cool and had smart design aspects. I love that I can travel with this bag, bike through the city, go out for drinks or bring it into a meeting with me. It’s a bit rugged, but I love the look and it really fits my lifestyle.

The fashion item I’m eyeing next is the Stan Smith originals in all-black.

My grooming staple is a pretty simple routine. I use Kevin Murphy matte hair clay, and some Nivea men’s face cream. Working in a kitchen, my hands take a beating so I use L’Occitane shea hand cream religiously.
