Design expo promises a flair for creativity

THE third China Suzhou Creative & Design Industry Expo will start tomorrow at the Suzhou International Expo Center. The three-day event will feature exhibits on travel, art, architecture and more.

This year’s exposition includes Design, Life and Experience zones. They cover a combined area of 32,000 square meters. Five-hundred exhibitors from various countries will take part in the event.

The expo will continue to emphasize the importance of the design industry in the industrial chain. It will also stress the value of good design and support talented designers.

Energy saving and environmental protection will be stressed during the expo.

Suzhou is famous for its gardens. The Hall of Suzhou Craftsmanship in the Design Zone will reflect on Chinese people’s beliefs about the importance of balance and harmony in life. Gardens reflect this through the keen attention to details like the layout of rocks, trees, streams and pavilions.

Like the city’s numerous gardens, the Hall of Suzhou Craftsmanship demonstrates the “borrowed scenery” method. The idea was to incorporate the natural landscape into a garden’s layout. This style was especially popular in the Song (960-1279) and Ming (1368-1644) dynasties.

The hall also includes a LED screen showcasing various local handcrafts with the theme “Past, Present and Future.”

The Design Zone also features the Hall of Works by Young Chinese Designers, the Smart City Hall and the Hall of Urban Public Art and Design. They have been created to stimulate new ideas in architecture and design.

The Experience Zone will offer movies, games and more. The Animation Industry Hall, as usual, will be the highlight with famous cartoon figures from comics, board games and cosplay.

The Life Zone is related to creative items for daily life and tourism. From fashion to printing and art to tourism, this area has something for everyone.

The Tourism Hall provides a glimpse into the cultures and creative designs of other Chinese cities such as Hangzhou and Xi’an. Souvenirs are on sale.

Various professional activities will be held during the expo, including the 3rd National Design Contest for College Students and the China Furniture Design Contest and Summit.
