Free cooking class for Mother's Day

THE Eton Hotel Shanghai will host free cooking classes for those who dine at the hotel's outlets on Mother's Day during which guests can learn how to prepare classic Cantonese, Singaporean and Italian dishes.

Hotel chefs will demonstrate two Cantonese, three Singaporean and one Italian dishes.

"Both mothers and their children can participate in the cooking classes. Mothers are normally responsible for cooking for the whole family. We hope that some exotic recipes from the classes can inspire their cooking. At the same time, this is a good time for the kids to express gratitude to their mothers," Chinese Executive Chef Sam Lee says.

Singaporean Chef Foo Tee Loke will also offer some tips on preparing ingredients and cooking to save time in the kitchen. Chef Lee will demonstrate preparation of the traditional Cantonese dish Steamed Fish with Preserved Vegetables and tongsui, a kind of sweet, peanut cream soup that is also a Cantonese specialty.

Chef Foo brought recipes from Singapore and will teach the guests how to make Hokkien fried prawn noodles and "bak kut teh," a classic soup dish in Singapore made of pork ribs simmered with various herbs and spices and known for complex flavors and rich fragrance. Other than these, Chef Foo will also teach Seafood Hui Fan (rice fried with seafood).

As an additional, Pastry chef Dennis Long will teach the guests how to prepare the classic Italian dessert tiramisu.

Comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended. Classes last about two hours. One class will be held at 11:30am while the other starts at 5:30pm. Advance booking is required.

Mothers dining at the hotel's outlets on Mother's Day will be given intimate gifts and can participate in lucky draw.

Other than international food experience at Eton Cafe, mothers can also dine at Chinese restaurant Yu Ting, which will launch dim sum lunch buffet and set menu dinner especially designed for mothers that features low-calorie and colorful Cantonese dishes, such as Deep-fried Prawn Roll with Kataifi, Conpoy Soup with Winter Melon.
