Shangri-La backs Ride for Hope
Ride for Hope, a 2,000-kilometer marathon charity ride across Southeast China organized by Shangri-La Group will pedal off on Saturday at Futian Shangri-La, Shenzhen.
The three-week ride through four provinces, 22 cities and 11 Shangri-La hotels will reach its end at Kerry Hotel Pudong, Shanghai on December 7. Six riders will do the whole journey. For the relay, a group of local riders organized by Shangri-La hotels in Shenzhen, Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Suzhou and Shanghai will join in.
Event proceeds will go in part to the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, where around 20 families urgently need to build water cisterns. Money will also be used to fund Shenzhen Blue Ocean Conservation Association, an NGO devoted to ocean conservation and Will Foundation supporting abandoned kids.
ìRide for Hope was initiated to raise money for those people in need. Only with the support and assistance from Shangri-La hotels and sponsors are we able to undertake this cycling challenge and execute it on such a scale,?says Emil Leung, area manager and general manager of Futian Shangri-La.
Cycling lovers are welcome to join in by registering at any of the Shangri-La hotels mentioned above and donating 200 yuan (US$32.26). The official shirt for the ride is 500 yuan. The entry fee, shirt revenue and donations will go to charity.
As the exclusive English-language media partner of the event, Shanghai Dailyís lifestyle website, iDEALShanghai.com, will update the ride coverage throughout the event. Those clicking and forwarding the event webpage will become eligible for a lucky draw. Prizes include Shangri-Laís room voucher and Shanghai Dailyís digital subscription VIP card.
During the event, iDEALShanghai.com will host an online charity sale with gift packs. All proceeds go to Shangri-Laís charity fund. Shanghai Daily will also hold an offline charity sale at Shangri-La hotels in Hangzhou, Suzhou and Shanghai on December 6 and 7, respectively.
