Spots for mouth-watering Western fare

SHANGHAI is filled with fine Western dining restaurants where guests can enjoy traditional and modern fare as well as a range of fine wines.

From tender and juicy steaks fresh off the grill to top-quality seafood prepared in imaginative and flavorful ways, there's always a perfect dish.

Here are two restaurants worth visiting for sophisticated food and wine.

Camelia

Close to the IFC mall, Camelia is one of the two restaurants at Four Seasons Hotel Pudong, which opened this month.

Located on the first floor, Camelia is a modern venue featuring French cuisine and Japanese sushi and sashimi. There's also a wine bar and lounge.

The indoor dining area can accommodate 162 guests; a private dining room seats 12 guests. In nice weather, the terrace is the place to enjoy wine or tea and sweet treats.

Main courses include seafood, meat and poultry. Executive chef Weimar Gomez creates delectable and intriguing dishes.

He and chef Benjamin Brial both worked at the Michelin-star restaurant at Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris.

The roasted black cod with watermelon and crunchy vanilla vegetables combines fish with fruits, while the smoked and roasted lobster with risotto-style eggplant has a creative texture, the eggplant adding softness to the firmer shellfish.

The wine collection includes some of the best Champagnes and other wines. Master chef Takizawa prepares a selection of Japanese nigiri, maki rolls and sashimi using the freshest ingredients.

For its opening, Camelia also offers a special business lunch buffet, 188 yuan (US$29.60) for buffet plus a main course, or 138 yuan (US$21.70) for buffet only.
