Tourism flowers in beautiful Anhui county
IN march and April, China’s rape flowers are in full bloom. Shitan village in Xi County, in east China’s Anhui Province, is renowned as a photographers’ paradise thanks to its rolling clouds, mysterious mists and stunning fields of yellow rape flowers.
These days, the viewing platforms that were built in Shitan for tourists are crowded with shutterbugs from sunrise to sunset.
An hour before sunrise, passionate shooters start arriving to scout out the best vantage points. Many of them also come hoping for a background of mist-shrouded mountains.
During the daytime, countless colorfully-dressed travelers can be seen walking the area’s mountain paths.
The surrounding area is also home to Bei’an village, famed for its ancient streets built in the Ming (1368–1644) and Qing (1644-1912) dynasties. China’s biggest Wu family ancestral temple and the Ming dynasty-era Fengyu bridge also lie in Bei’an village.
Closer to Shitan, there is also a deserted village that is noted for its serenity and the beauty of its surrounding scenery. Visitors can spend a night at a nearby farmhouse and then rise early to enjoy the restful beauty of the countryside.
During peak tourist seasons, the narrow mountain paths from Xiakeng town to Shitan village are usually crowded with cars. It’s best to avoid driving in Xiakeng, and instead get around using one of the small vehicles plying the local roads.
Travelers from Shanghai can catch a bus to Xi county at Shanghai South Station. At the Xi county bus station, one can transfer to a bus headed for Shitan.
Xi county is located in southern Anhui Province, 370 kilometers’ distance from Shanghai and more than 30 kilometers from Xiakeng town.
