Valentine’s afternoon tea at The Langham

IN this most romantic month of the year, an indulgence of dessert and champagne with your special someone is in order.

Throughout February, Lobby Lounge at The Langham, Shanghai, Xintiandi is celebrating love with an all-new Valentine’s afternoon tea. This special set features a romantic selection of savory and sweet creations presented on elegant and beautifully crafted Wedgewood chinaware with an English rose pattern exclusive to The Langham.

The six savories are on the light side with a spring vibe. These include a refreshing green pea soup with a king crab meat salad that presents a superb flavor balance, a garden-inspired Langham pink sandwich with asparagus and brie cheese, and a harmonious dish that combines fresh watermelon with feta cheese and basil pesto. The classic foie gras de canard terrine is paired with mango semi gelee on honey bread.

In addition to signature freshly baked fruit scones served with Devonshire clotted cream, strawberry and bitter orange marmalade, the Valentine’s afternoon tea introduces new pastries like the airy pistachio cream with cone, fresh strawberry cheese cake, heart-shaped chocolate with raspberry cream, red velvet cake, sesame mousse cake and love chocolate cake.

The Valentine’s set includes two glasses of rosé Champagne, the perfect drink for this romantic occasion. All items in this classic afternoon tea set are made in house with high quality ingredients.

Through this month, Lobby Lounge will also continue serving its Vivienne Westwood-themed afternoon tea, which sources sustainable ingredients in recognition of Westwood’s ecological philosophies and signature elements of the brand, like marinated sesame tuna with okra, slow cooked organic bell pepper with roasted baguette, pink strawberry éclair, and orange cup cake with meringue.

The Palm Court at Langham, London is known as the birthplace of afternoon tea.

The history of this British tradition dates back to 1865, when Anna Maria Stanhope, the 7th Duchess of Bedford and a lady-in-waiting to the queen, created the afternoon tea when she began to invite friends to join her for light meals to fill the gap between lunch and dinner.

Time: Lobby Lounge offers afternoon tea daily between 2 and 5pm.

Price: The Valentine’s afternoon tea set is 736 yuan (US$107) for two persons, and the Vivienne Westwood themed afternoon tea set is 688 yuan for two, above prices are subject to 16.6 percent service charge.
