Veteran crooner Iglesias bringing romance to city

MULTI-MILLION-SELLING Spanish singer and songwriter Julio Iglesias will kick off his China live tour "Top of the Romance" at Shanghai Grand Stage on April 14.
This will be the Madrid-born star's third time playing concerts in China.
With a career stretching back 45 years, Iglesias has released 80 albums in 14 languages which have sold more than 300 million copies worldwide - amassing him more than 2,600 gold and platinum records.
The 69-year-old Spaniard is looking forward to his China dates.
"I haven't performed in China for 10 years. I am so grateful for being given the chance to come back," he says.
"Music, the contact with the audience, keeps me alive. I don't consider retirement as long as life is so generous to me and allows me to move forward," he adds.
The upcoming tour will focus on the Iglesias' most popular songs over his long career, in several languages. These are likely to include "Vincent" ("Starry Night"), "La Paloma" ("Dove"), "Hey," "Wo Bist Du" ("Where Are You"), as well as the tango dances.
Iglesias was among the first international singers to become well-known with Chinese audiences. Songs in English, Spanish and Portuguese won over fans in this county in the early 1980s.
He performed "La Paloma" for Chinese audiences with Chinese singer Wei Wei in 1993. And in 1998, collaborated with Taiwanese singer Coco Lee on "When You Tell Me That You Love Me."
Iglesias re-recorded the most important songs of his career for his latest album, "No. 1," which was released in China last year.
"I did it because I wanted to offer the audience fresher versions of those songs and also because I truly believe that I sing better now than when I started," he says.
The singer lived in Hong Kong for a spell after his first marriage. "Later on, I had the chance to travel to China several times and I have always spent a wonderful time there," he says.
"I love everything in China, especially its people. They are very kind, feel music deep in their hearts and make one feel welcome from the very beginning," adds Iglesias.
