Vote your choice for city’s most romantic street

People know Shanghai as a metropolitan city. Many don’t know of the city’s many quiet roads and neighborhoods are filled with graceful architecture and large green areas. With Valentine’s Day on the way, iDEALShanghai invites you to vote for the ideal road for lovers to take a stroll. Here are seven possibilities selected by Shanghai Daily editors.

1 Tian’ai Road

There is a special love mailbox around the crossing of Tian’ai Road. Every letter sent from here will be covered with an English “love” postmark, so that the addressee can feel the love from the letter.

2 Dongping Road and Taojiang

Road

Dongping and Taojiang roads were both conferred with the title “First Lovers Street in Shanghai.” Taojiang Road is so quiet that you can hear the rustling of tree leaves, while there is a bit more noise on Dongping Road, where there are restaurants that look like garden villas in old Shanghai, sheltered in courtyards.

3 Daxue Road

The newly renovated tree-lined avenue is a fine place for sightseeing and taking photos. A wide range of creative products provided by stores along the street attract artistic people, and many couples come for a nice stroll.

4 Yuanmingyuan Road

Stretching only 462 meters, this tranquil street dates to the 1860s. Near the small road is Waitanyuan, a scenic area with enticing buildings like the former British Consulate, the Shanghai Rowing Club and the Union Church.

5 Wukang Road

The 1,170-meter-long Wukang Road is a peaceful side street lined by nearly 100-year-old European-style houses and buildings. The road is shady with thick foliage of plane trees along the curbs and flowering shrubs around houses of English, French, Mediterranean, baroque and Art Deco styles.

6 Sinan Road

Once called Massenet Rue, the former French Concession’s Sinan Road is regarded as “shangzhijiao,” or the upstream of the Huangpu River where celebrities and rich people used to gather. On both sides of the street there are small houses built in Western styles.

7 Anfu Road

Anfu Road features art and lots of coffee shops and wine shops. On a weekend morning, chose a little coffee shop where you can just sit by the window and watch pedestrians go by, taking in a piece of Shanghai tranquility.
