What goes round

Gatten Sushi is a conveyor-belt style sushi restaurant, and like many similar revolving-buffet spots, prices are denoted by the color of the plate on which the sushi is served.

The belt offers at least 25 different types of sushi and side dishes, such as sesame seaweed salad, but you can always order a specially-made dish from the menu.

As at most gatten sushi outlets, chefs work inside the conveyor belt, inviting diners to watch the sushi being made and placed on the revolving belt.

The restaurant’s sushi is far from traditional, and could seriously offend sushi connoisseurs. But an eclectic approach may be the price to pay for having 100 types of sushi on the menu.

Fusion options include foie gras nigiri, mayo-topped salmon nigiri, Philadelphia roll — cream cheese, salmon and avocado — and grilled beef nigiri. Some traditional simple fish-and-rice nigiri are also served.

One complaint would be that on our visit the avocado was hard and unripe — a serious turnoff. Gatten Sushi is recommended to diners who care most about speed of delivery.
