“I started practicing yoga when I was a student at the University of Liverpool. I was a yellow belt in our university taekwondo club. One day I asked a fitness professional to recommend me a training routine to increase my flexibility and be able to compete at higher levels. The instructor suggested yoga. I got many benefits from practicing yoga including increased flexibility and a feeling of lightness in my step and my body. I felt stronger and more agile. In my recent practice I get the same benefits plus better sleep and relaxation.
Also recently at Pure Yoga in Shanghai I did many Hot Core classes to combat lower back pain that I get during my day job working in an office. I became pain free, and also started to develop abs.
I like the handstand posture best. The feeling of being upside down is wonderful. Each time I do that position I feel as though all the blood inside my body is being cleaned, fresh and alive. I think that yoga is a personal pursuit. It is fun to practice with others but the achievements and challengers are personal, and the increase in flexibility and strength is personal.

“I started to study yoga in a gym at my community two years ago. The first class was really impressive. I sweated all over and felt refreshed. That night, I slept very soundly. Practicing yoga has not only made me fit — it also starts or ends my day with happiness and thankfulness. I’ve always had good relationships with teachers and classmates. Helping and learning from each other is the best part of the class. When I go traveling, I always spare some time to practice yoga near a riverway or in a valley, where I can meditate with the sound of the water.”

“I start practicing yoga because it is a way to control the mind, body and breath. Yoga makes my body healthy as it gives mental peace. When practicing it, I feel active, energetic and it makes my body more flexible. As a yoga teacher ... I also learn from the bravery and diligence of my students. I will keep practicing yoga till my last breath.”

“I started practicing yoga three years ago because I was having heartache and wanted to ‘detoxed’ after working all day. During yoga class, I feel myself becoming calm and relaxed. I have tried many styles of yoga such as Vinyasa, Ashtanga yoga, detox flow, Hatha yoga, hot yoga and upside down. Now I can use yoga breathing techniques very well. After daily practice, I felt like I was sleeping better and now I practice together with my daughter.”
