ideal afternoon tea

AFTERNOON tea or coffee, especially outdoors, is an appealing way to while away the hours in summer. It is also a perfect way to bring together friends and family.

Many restaurants and cafes in Shanghai offer a range of tea and coffee with pastries and snacks. Here are a few of them, including some you probably have not considered for afternoon get-togethers.

Ambrosia

This Japanese teppanyaki restaurant on Fenyang Road has floor-to-ceiling windows, a sunny terrace and lawn. Apart from main courses, Ambrosia offers a selection of pastry fruit, coffees and teas.

Maison de L'Hui

Affiliated with the Shanghai-style restaurant chain Shanghai Min, the restaurant offers authentic Shanghai dishes as well as walnut cake, turnip cake and other snacks for tea.

Bridge Restaurant

On the ground floor of City Hotel, Bridge Restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere with simple, sophisticated decor.

Antoni Restaurant

This Spanish restaurant is inside an old residence near the corner of Julu and Fumin roads. Chef Antoni serves traditional and innovative dishes.

Il Bambino

Il Bambino is tucked away in a shikumen (stone-gate)-style alley in the maze of lanes in Tian Zi Fang. It offers a cozy environment for a peaceful afternoon. Its tiramisu and chocolate lava cake are popular.
