Prowling around for great hotel bathroom amenities
HOTEL bath amenities impress travelers and can make a difference to their loyalty to a brand.
“When you walk into a bathroom and there’s Hermes Eau D’Orange Verte there, you know things are about to get fancy,” said Nadine Jolie, an American beauty blogger.
Quality shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, soap and lotion refresh guests for the day ahead. Natural aromatic bath salts lead to a soothing soak, bringing relief to aching muscles and easing tension before going to bed.
More luxury hotels are paying attention to improving their bath amenities to add value. Some sets are so attractive that guests can’t help taking them home.
“Toiletries are reflective of the quality of the hotel brand as the products they use have to be absolutely safe and trustworthy. Toiletries are an intimate item to every guest as they come into direct contact with their skin and hair,” said Cecilia Lui, regional director of communications, China, The Peninsula.
“The hotel’s reputation is at stake, thus the selection of toiletries has to be very prudent. And a good partnership between a hotel and producer will also be able to enhance the image of both brands, reaching out to more guests to help them understand both brands even better.”
Shanghai Daily hunts for the finest hotel bath amenities in town, finding out that the latest trend among the upscale properties is the pursuit of distinctive, exclusive and natural toiletries.
Sensory memory
Some luxury hotels, represented by The Peninsula Shanghai, distinguish themselves through their bespoke bathroom amenity collections. All items are created exclusively for the hotel, from the fragrance to the shape of the bottle. The idea is to give guests a distinctive sensory memory. The Shangri-La group’s standard rooms feature bespoke toiletries painted with its own logo.
Luxury fashion brands such as Hermes, Salvatore Ferragamo, Bvlgari and Asprey have launched personal hygiene sets exclusively for the high-end hospitality market. Shampoo bottles with logos of those famous brands are found in some five-star hotels’ executive rooms and premium suites.
Some hotels like Park Hyatt Shanghai and Langham Xintiandi use their guest rooms as an extension of their spas, using products made from natural aromatherapy oils. Aromatherapy baths can be set up in a room upon request at these two hotels.
The Portman Ritz-Carlton Shanghai
The Portman uses the Asprey Purple Water collection in all of its rooms. London-based Asprey is one of the world’s oldest luxury goods houses known for its jewelry, especially its masterpiece necklace, Heart of the Ocean, featured in the film “Titanic.”
Asprey’s collection distinguishes itself through its citrusy and spicy fragrance that combines freshness with depth.
