Pudong Shangri-La, East Shanghai is heaven for MICE with range of customized services

AS more and more companies and organizations are drawn to Shanghai for high-quality events, the city's MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and events) industry is growing steadily.

Pudong Shangri-La, East Shanghai is turning itself into one of the most popular and innovative MICE destinations in town. A convenient location, diverse, well-equipped function rooms, a large culinary team and exclusive MICE butler service set the hotel apart. The hotel understands that every event is different thus each detail is tailored to suit the requirements of the organizers.

As the first luxury hotel in the Pudong New Area, it has an ideal location by the Huangpu River in Lujiazui financial district where many multinational companies have their headquarters. The hotel is only 40 minutes from both international airports and within easy walking distance of the Shanghai International Convention Center.

Metro Line 2, which links Pudong to central Puxi, runs through the Shanghai New International Expo Center and the Shanghai Exhibition Center, so the two most important exhibition venues are within easy reach.

Fully equipped to accommodate several large conference groups at the same time, the hotel has more than 900 guest rooms, each a minimum of 40 square meters in size, with splendid views of the Bund or the Pudong skyline.

Offering 6,500 square meters of indoor and outdoor event space, the hotel can accommodate a wide range of events, including big banquets, new product launches, gala dinners and corporate board meetings and workshops.

More than 22 function rooms of various designs, sizes and heights cater to diverse organizers and participants, some seeking private and exclusive events while others gala dinners for 1,200 guests.

The Summit Room, Suzhou, Wuxi and Guilin Rooms, Grand Ballroom and the China Hall are highlights.

The Summit Room at the Grand Tower opened last year and gives a new interpretation to meetings, combining business with elegant lifestyle, which is ideal for board meetings, large-scale conferences and new product launches.

It may well be the first venue in the city combining boardroom, living room and dining space. Summit Room guests have private access to the hotel, ensuring exclusivity and privacy.

The luxurious venue features a full ceiling of chandeliers and traditional Chinese ink wash paintings depicting symbolic bamboo and lotus. In the boardroom area, an iPad controls audio-visual equipment such as multiple projectors, mobile televisions and lighting settings.

A personalized butler service is exclusive to the room. The butler is in charge of all activities and services, directs the hotel's elite meeting services team (including sommelier and chef), provides personalized service on request, such as organizing photocopying and booking flights.

Suzhou, Wuxi and Guilin Rooms on Level 3 of the River Wing offer breathtaking views of the historical Bund. The rooms can be blocked off and utilized as separate private rooms or opened up into a single pillarless room that measures 306 square meters.

China Hall, the largest function room, covers 1,740 square meters, with a ceiling height of 7.9 meters. Contemporary and minimalist in design, this is suitable for large conventions, gala dinners and T-stage fashion shows.

The Grand Ballroom on the other hand sits on 1,530 square meters of spacious ground, featuring grandiose chandeliers in a pillarless room that has reception seating up to a maximum of 1,500 guests.

Although food is only one part of a meeting or event, it can make a big impression on participants. A culinary team that is highly innovative and creative makes every event distinctive. The thrust is to customize the menu for both food and beverages for each event, whether this is held inside the hotel or outside.

The team is led by executive chef Ulrich Jablonka, who has extensive experience managing large banquets and is known for his efficiency and creativity.

David Shoemaker, the hotel's sommelier and mixologist, brings his wine expertise to the table, giving pairing recommendations that are ideal for each occasion. He is also adept with creating customized cocktails to complement the theme of any event. Kept under strict storage conditions are over 600 wine labels from the best terroirs around to world, the exclusive selection is enough to satisfy even the most particular guests.

With a team of more than 300 chefs coming from various parts of the world, the hotel is able to harness the culinary diversity from each individual chef to create innovative menu experiences that are rich in detail and authentic in flavors.
