Starring roles for city鈥檚 luxury hotels

From urban tales to romantic encounters, many stories in films and on TV are set in hotels, the place for meeting people and new adventures.

Here are some of the hotels in Shanghai having been featured on screen.

Hyatt on the Bund

With one of the best views of the legendary Bund and a prime site on the banks of the Huangpu River, Hyatt on the Bund is one of Shanghai鈥檚 most popular film locations.

More than 20 films and TV series have been filmed here, including Chinese romantic dramas 鈥101 Proposals鈥 and 鈥淭iny Times鈥 and British comedy 鈥淗ector and the Search for Happiness.鈥

The presidential suite of Hyatt on the Bund appeared in 鈥淭iny Times鈥 as the heroine鈥檚 luxury apartment, with its rotating LCD TV and marble bath.

The Vue Bar has also featured in various films. The stylish venue has a brick-lined, loft-style lounge furnished with bed-style sofas plus an enticing whirlpool on the terrace, commanding the best views of the Bund skyline.

Four Seasons Hotel Pudong, Shanghai

Known in the city as the 鈥007 pool,鈥 the infinity swimming pool of the Four Seasons Hotel Pudong, Shanghai was featured in the 2012 James Bond movie 鈥淪kyfall.鈥

Located on the 41st floor of the hotel, the sleek, jade-tiled indoor pool can be exclusively yours from 11pm for two hours with canapes and wine, and a spectacular view of the Shanghai skyline.

The hotel also offers 24-hour fitness center with Technogym equipment.

The Art Deco inspired hotel is in the Lujiazui business district surrounded by the iconic skyscrapers and bustling city streets.

Fairmont Peace Hotel

An Art Deco masterpiece brilliantly reinvented for the 21st century, the Fairmont Peace Hotel has been featured in a series of films as a classic city landmark that best represents Shanghai鈥檚 culture and flair, including scenes from 鈥淭emptress Moon鈥 (1994), 鈥淔orever Enthralled鈥 (2008), 鈥淟eaving Me, Loving You鈥 (2004) and 鈥淭he Silent War鈥 (2012).

The hotel was widely known as the 鈥淣o. 1 mansion in the Far East鈥 and, for over eight decades, served as a glamorous playground for the elite.

With the Peace Hall restored to its original grandeur, guests can revive memories of old Shanghai cabarets and gala parties while stepping on the iconic sprung-wooden dance floor.

The hotel鈥檚 Jazz Bar takes guests back to the private clubs of the 1920s and 1930s with stunning performances from the Old Jazz Band, made up of six veteran musicians with an average age of 82. For decades, they have drawn an audience of locals, international travelers, celebrities and even heads of state such as former US presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan.

Sofitel Shanghai Hongqiao

The modern Sofitel Shanghai Hongqiao has been a favorite location of urban stories set in Shanghai. Top-rated TV series such as 鈥淥de to Joy II鈥 (2017) and 鈥淣egotiator鈥 (2016) have shot scenes in the hotel.

The hotel stands out for its French luxury and style with a grand facade and classic Parisian architecture.

With a surface area of 1,030 square meters and height of 10 meters, the hotel鈥檚 grand ballroom Perrault was chosen as the location for Xie Xiaofei and Zhao Chenxi鈥檚 wedding in the final episode of 鈥淣egotiator.鈥

Modern Cantonese fusion restaurant Le Chinois, which was featured in an episode of 鈥淥de to Joy II,鈥 offers eight unique private dining rooms with views over a cascading waterfall, and a menu featuring classic dishes.

Located in the heart of the Hongqiao business district, the property is close to Hongqiao International Airport and Hongqiao Railway Station.
