Suites fit for a Chairman or President

PRESIDENTIAL suites represent the ultimate in luxury and extravagance, and many people would love a peek inside the best that the best five-star hotels have to offer. And just how much does it cost to spend one night in presidential splendor?

We visit four distinctive presidential suites, all of them lavish, some infused with history, some modern in decor, all with magnificent views.

Fairmont Peace Hotel

The Fairmont Peace Hotel, a cherished landmark, has graced the Bund since 1929.

The Sassoon Presidential Suite reflects the 1930s internationalism of Sir Victor Sassoon, the flamboyant founder and owner of the Cathay Hotel, which was renamed the Peace Hotel in 1956.

During the 1930s Sir Victor lived in the 10th floor penthouse, which is now the Sassoon Presidential Suite. Facing the Huangpu River and the Bund, it affords magnificent views from the living room and bedroom.

The design is 1930s in style. It features a study, living room, bedroom and bathroom with Jacuzzi, bespoke furnishings and Miller Harris amenities. The dining area can accommodate as many as 10 guests for intimate dinners or meetings.

On floors 5, 6 and 7 are the Nine Nations Suites envisioned by Sir Victor, each has beautiful views of the Huangpu River and the city. The designs of the suites show the cultural and stylistic influences of nine different countries - India, the UK, the US, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, German and China.

Grand Central Hotel Shanghai

The Presidential Suite at the Grand Central Hotel Shanghai was designed by HBA (Hong Kong) Designer's Studio. It is a combination of the royal and Shanghai suites, covering 700 square meters, one of the largest of its kind. The totally independent suite has its own corridor, which protects the privacy of the guests.

The spacious living room is decorated in a combination of European and traditional Chinese style with a fireplace and crystal chandelier as well as antique furnishings. An old Shanghai-style gramophone evokes memories of music of the 1930s. Huge Chinese embroidered paintings add opulence.

The Presidential Suite also has a 60-square-meter garden, suitable for enjoying an afternoon cup of coffee or hosting a private reception. The huge bathroom includes a shower room and sauna room.

The Langham Xintiandi

The newly opened Chairman Suite on the 28th floor covers 345 square meters on two levels and offers a luxurious experience and views of Xintiandi and Taiping Lake.

The suite contains a separate dining room, kitchen and interior bamboo garden.

The spacious, high-ceiling living room contains crystal chandeliers by Barovier & Toso, luxurious sofas and timeless art pieces. Walking up the interior staircase, guests can enjoy the privacy of the bedroom with a king-sized bed, as well as a spacious walk-in bathroom and dressing room. Outside the bedroom, is an outdoor, rooftop Jacuzzi and cabana.

Guests at the Chairman Suite are entitled to all privileges and benefits of The Langham Club, including breakfast, 24-hour refreshments and other conveniences. Club guests can use a boardroom free of charge for up to two hours.

Grand Hyatt Shanghai

The Chairman Suite on the 82nd floor of Grand Hyatt Shanghai is the highest of its kind in Shanghai.

The living room features two glass walls at a right angle, and double curtains on two sides. Prints on pure silk were created by Bilkey Llinas Design. A Yamaha grand piano stands in the corner.

The dining room, which can also be used as a small meeting room, opens off the living room. The Chairman Suite contains only one bedroom, but two beds with Irish linen bedding. Guests enjoy unbeatable accommodation, unbeatable height and privacy.
