Findings of parent survey

A SURVEY conducted by smmail.cn, a government-run comprehensive service portal, among 1,780 parents shows 70 percent of them will teach their children pinyin (writing Chinese words in Western alphabetic letters) before entering primary school.

For preschool training

• 47 percent will let their children attend the training classes before entering primary school.

• 53 percent won’t send their children to attend the training classes.

For preschool skills (multiple choices)

• 49 percent of parents hope that one of the basic skills for their children before entering primary school is social ability.

• 43 percent choose sports.

• About 39 percent choose painting and music.

• 29 percent choose learning Chinese characters and mathematics.

For the score

• 31 percent of the parents hope there will be a score-ranking list at the class.

• 69 percent don’t want such a list.
