Vintage clocks get new life
LU Laida, 71, is a repairer, seller and enthusiast of vintage clock in the suburb Zhoupu Town of the Pudong New Area.
Lu became interested in vintage clocks in 1985, when he quit his job in a manufacturing company and opened his own small business.
At that time, self-employment was still uncommon in Shanghai. He started as a vendor of second-hand items, using his bicycle as a mobile shop. Later he opened his vintage clock store in Zhoupu.
Every week Lu goes to flea markets in downtown area to look for vintage clocks and meet old collector friends. Nowadays though, instead of taking his bicycle, this undaunted entrepreneur takes the subway.
