An eye for classic elegance
CHLOE Chen is the founder and design director of Chloe Chen women's fashion boutique. She opened her first boutique in Taipei in 2000 based on the concept of providing unique products from around the globe. Unable to find the right style shoes, Chen decided to design and produce her own shoes in 2003. She currently has 10 boutiques in Taiwan and Shanghai.
My personal style is "conflict" and "contradictory." I like to mix antique with modern; I like soft and elegant to coexist with a combination of romance and rock elements. I appreciate sexy with low-key elegance.
The best outfit I've ever worn was a tactile dress sophisticatedly cut and matched with a pair of vibrant high heels.
I usually shop in Chloe Chen. Because every product sold in Chloe Chen was carefully designed or selected by myself. And I love all of them.
If I have to limit myself to one Shanghai neighborhood, it's Fuxing Road W. and Wukang Road. It's quiet in a noisy neighborhood without many cars and people. Plane trees, exotic shops, restaurants and old buildings are the other reasons I like this area.
My favorite brands include Lanvin, especially its dresses. I also like Tom Ford for its combination of modern and vintage. Lulu Frost is another brand which fits very well with the collision of antiques and new elements.
The designer I most admire is Coco Chanel. I appreciated her spirit. Her innovation and independent feminism has become part of the brand's DNA.
I collect shoes and antiques. My favorite ware is flats. In fact, flat shoes can be matched very beautifully, and some of their designs meet the different needs and moods very well. Unique pieces such as antique furniture, jewelry and second-hand goods are other things I like.
The most memorable place I've traveled to is Santorini, Greece. The white and blue colors make people very comfortable, very natural and beautiful. It's like a paradise you can only dream of and gives you a little bit of an unreal feeling. Santorini is the place my husband and I want to live after retirement.
The best thing about living in Shanghai is that it is very international, with many world-class restaurants. You can be exposed to many different people and things. There are many new and old buildings mixed together. Friction is not the same spark.
The last book I read was "Le Petit Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
Another city where I would love to live is Paris, since I now have a baby and love the slower pace and restrained fashion.
Alan See is one of the founders of the classic menswear boutique The Armoury based in Hong Kong. The boutique was born from See's passion for classic styling and interest in the unique stories behind well-crafted men's products. The products are made with quality craftsmanship, outstanding design and timeless style. Their latest shop is located in Landmark Central.
My personal style is to stay sharp and smart and this has resulted in me putting on a suit and jacket most of the time. Classic menswear has persevered through the ages and something that many people do not appreciate anymore.
The best outfit I've ever worn was my tuxedo and I wish I had more occasions to wear it! Black-tie is one of the few occasions that men can really strap on an extremely sculpted sillhouette and in my opinion one of the best looks every man can have. The only way to do black-tie is to get something made specifically for you and unfortunately, not many people understand that anymore.
I follow the fashion trends by reading numerous blogs on the Internet that are quick at picking up interesting things and I love the speed of information. There are a few magazines that I love including Japanese Men's EX and Leon SNAP.
I usually shop in The Armoury, which is really the culmination of our shopping tastes and what we love so I rarely have reason to shop elsewhere! I do love hunting for more amazing tailoring shops around the world though and hope to see more interesting tailors in Italy and the UK.
If I had to limit my Hong Kong shopping to one neighborhood, it's Star Street in Wan Chai, which seems to have the most unique and interesting collection of shops in Hong Kong right now.
My favorite brand is Liverano & Liverano in Florence. The founder Antonio Liverano is an amazing tailor and an amazing story as well.
The fashion item I'm eyeing next is the ultimate tassel loafer that I'm currently working with a shoemaker in Vienna.
I collect blue suits and jackets. The most versatile item in a man's wardrobe has got to be the blue jacket and white shirt and other than having the numerous shades, textures, weaves and styles of a navy jacket.
The most memorable place I've traveled was the luscious green hill treks of Sai Kung - less than an hour from the bustling streets of Central, but a completely different world and a side of Hong Kong many people fail to see.
Another city I would love to live is Tokyo and the food there is one of the things I always go back to, and it seems to have this completely different world that I would not mind exploring and discovering.
