Models bare their secrets
WHEN you were 20 months old, you appeared on a Chanel catwalk with your mother. Was that your first fashion memory?
I can't remember that. My first memory was going on shoots with my mom at age five.
Do you prefer catwalk or commercial shoots?
I love both. I also love editorial shoots. It's always fun to do crazy makeup and hairstyles. I love when they curl my hair because I have naturally straight hair.
You were a top music student. Why did you go into modeling?
To be a singer, you must be single-minded. When I left school, I didn't know what I wanted to do but I didn't want music to be my absolute career. I do love music, I played piano since I was six ... But modeling was a great opportunity to work. Sometimes you have a crazy month but there's also free time, that's the beauty of it.
How has being the daughter of famous parents influenced you?
Both of my parents greatly influence the way I am, the way I act, the way I talk, the way I find things funny. I'm so much the mix of my amazing parents ... The whole family is very creative - we draw, sing, play music. It's a big family with three dogs and two cats. My middle sister is in a band, my youngest sister is in school.
You're modeling full time, taking a break from studies. What's next?
This is still my figuring time. If I figure out what I really want and need a degree for, I might go back to school. (Otherwise) I don't want to waste time and money or spend three years for a piece of paper.
Your mother was a catwalk queen for two decades. What was her best career advice to you?
She always says, "Be nice to everybody.'' It is always good to leave a good impression. She wants me to have fun and enjoy my work.
Who is your style icon?
My mom. I'm also influenced by old black and white films ... with Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly … There's a sense of elegance about the people. And it's not that they tried hard and wore a lot of jewelry. It's more attitude and charm.
Describe your personal style.
Being comfortable. I like soft fabrics and being able to move easily. I wear a lot of black, leather, and mix floaty summer dresses with leather jackets and lace-up boots. I throw everything together. This season I love long dresses and skirts.
Please share your fashion tips.
Never play by the rules. Never be scared by your inner punk or inner child. Whatever you feel that day, dress up for it. Fashion is about playing the character. You can put on a flowery dress and become five years old again.
Where do you usually shop?
I mix high street with vintage and things I find online. I love shopping in a couple of vintage shops in London.
Wardobe updates?
I buy pieces. I don't buy a lot of things at once. I don't want to waste and good shoes and clothes deserve to be worn. My essentials are a pair of black skinny jeans, white shirt, flat lace-up military boots, a good pair of high heels and a fun going-out dress.

How would you describe your style?
My style is really hybrid. I love to mix fashion and classical items. By the way, I often dress like a man, I find it very sexy.
In everyday life what do you usually wear? What's your favorite?
For everyday, I dress very simply: skinny jeans, Converse shoes and T-shirt. I love many things in my wardrobe, mostly a Gareth Pugh blazer, a MiuMiu 50s coat, an Armani dress, a Philip Treacy's hat and Balenciaga boots.
Are you inspired by some icons or do you have a unique style?
Actually, I define my own style, since I am an impulsive person.
Which designer best represents your style?
I don't have one particular favorite designer. It really depends on the different collections.
Among the newest brands, which has the best chance to make it big?
There's not just one, fortunately there are many! I really appreciate Chinese designer Uma Wang, the new Italian brand Toy G is very interesting with an innovative vision, French designer Olympia Le Tan and Francesco Scognamiglio: very cool.
Milan, Paris, New York - which is the real capital of fashion?
Right now? Paris.
Can Shanghai become another "fashion city"?
Absolutely. It's a very glamorous and advanced city.
After years of modeling, have you thought of creating your own brand?
I'm thinking about it, I'd love to. I'm evaluating proposals. We'll see.
What are the best and the worst moments in your career?
No doubt, the worst moment was Gianfranco Ferrè's death: we were so strict. The best is my first experience as an actress: the movie had a great success.
What is your focus now? And in five years?
Today I am focused on my acting. In five years I see myself as mother and actress.
Your fiance is famous sound designer Matteo Ceccarini. How are music and fashion worlds connected?
Music and fashion have always been connected, they're fundamental to each other and Matteo Ceccarini is one of the great experts. Today fashion is definitely stronger than music, just think about Lady Gaga ...
